You are in good company!

Not only are our lawmakers interested in finding more effective solutions for nonviolent crime than prison, Texans across our great state overwhelmingly support this change. Click here to see the new statewide public opinion poll -- 75-80% of all Texans want our state to stop automatically sending nonviolent offenders to prison!

In the meantime, opposition is mounting towards bills that would increase prison time. View the opinions of newspaper editorial boards and organizations across the state!

  • Take Action!
  • The House of Representatives is slowing down on passing bills that increase prison time, but they are still passing some of these bills on to the Senate.

Please contact your state Representative today. Place just one quick telephone call to his/her office and let them know you are a constituent and a voter.

Please let your state Representative know that you would like them to say NO to increasing prison time on criminal offenses this session, please let them know that you are concerned about prison overcrowding and you want them to find effective alternatives to prison this session instead. For more information on bills that increase prison time, click here.

It takes just a moment to place a telephone call and register your opinion, but it makes a big difference when your elected official hears from you! The staff will register your opinion and let your Representative know that people in his district are concerned about this.
