Gov. Rick Perry could do the state a world of good by putting
his name on these bills:
•Legislation by Republican Reps. Jerry Madden and Ray Allen to
give judges flexibility in setting probation terms for less violent offenders. The net/net of this bill would be that probation
officers could focus on tough cases, not low-risk ones. House Bill 2193 also would authorize more probation
officers, which the state needs instead of more prison beds. ....
